Fast Fat Loss – friend of foe?

Fast Fat Loss – friend of foe?

If pushing the weight scales out of sight, could only push them out of mind.

We still know they’re there. We can’t quite throw them out even though they’re getting more dusty by the day and have somehow found their way to hide under the vanity. Way at the back.

When clothing starts to be snug we may think about hopping on the scales to either prove we’ve gained weight or prove that are clothes have shrunk in the wash.

We look at that number as it takes a few seconds to appear on the scales, maybe trying to shift our body weight back onto our heels in the faint hope the scales will recalibrate and we’ll be granted a few hundred grams grace.

But the weight you see right there before your eyes could be just what you need to change your life and don’t worry, it doesn’t have to stay that way for long.

Fast weight loss is not a health risk unless you’re starving yourself, exercising yourself into the ground, binge eating and purging or fooling yourself that crash diets are the answer to all of your problems.

Losing weight quickly is the answer. It’s fantastic to see and feel quick results and most health experts agree now that they’re happy for weight to be lost quickly. Just losing weight is often so beneficial for health in many ways and if it helps emotionally to lose it quickly, that’s absolutely fine, because it certainly helps physically.

It doesn’t take long at all, once the weight starts to shed, for your biological markers to start getting back into shape too. Your insulin levels should come into balance, fat starts to drain away from your organs and your cardiovascular health also improves quickly.

There used to be fears that losing weight quickly was bad for you. One of my recent clients, a 168kg man lost 8kg in the first week on my program which was a wonderful result but his friends and family expressed concern it was unhealthy to lose weight so quickly.

My question to him was: "How healthy were you 8kg ago?"

His decision to actively do something about his health should have been supported, probably applauded, not criticised and judged by very people he needs and wants on his team. He was excited to have made such a great result when, for some time, the scales had been moving in the other direction. Doubts raised by people he trusted and valued made him step backwards when he should have been even more motivated to step forward.

There’s nothing less motivating than telling someone they’ll take two years to reach their goal. Will you be excited to hear that, by 2026, you’ll be 10kg lighter? Or will you be excited to hear that by the 20th of next month you could be 10kg lighter?

Once you’re ready and committed, you want to get on with it and see results quickly, not slowly.

A 2013 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found a major dietary overhaul was much more effective than taking small steps because the long-term results were better. Losing weight slowly also slowed down the all important force of motivation.

Quick results are just the reward needed to boost motivation, especially in obese people.

The study found that people who lost the most weight in the first two to four weeks of their diet had the greatest weight loss a year later. Quick weight loss makes you want to hang in there with life changes and maintain that healthy weight for the rest of your life.

Also, the chances are that you need more than just a few small changes. You’re thinking "If I just walk a bit, swap the sugary soft drink for a sugar-free version and have one Tim Tam instead of three, I’ll lose weight."

There is some logic in thinking that gradual dietary change brings gradual results, plenty of time to get used to the new way of life and more chance of maintaining a healthy weight for years to come but that’s the problem. It’s gradual, very open to being so wayward that it completely goes off track and isn’t addressing the root cause of being overweight in the first place – that you’re probably still not feeding your body with the right balance of nutrition or exercising it with strength training.

Even if the 'steady she goes' approach works, and it probably won’t, you need to also think about your health in its entirety. As much as I’m all for rapid weight loss, my main aim is to encourage good health, to restore metabolic function, promote great nutritious eating and to help people live an energetic, fulfilled life. Nothing makes me happier than to see people with their best body. They never want the old body back once they’ve seen how much better it feels to be living in the healthiest version. You sleep better, have more energy for your family and all of that anxiety about your weight and health starts to lift so it has a great impact on mental health as well.

Losing weight quickly doesn’t mean starving or not including all the nutrients needed in a healthy diet. It’s not about starving; it’s just a shift in perspective.

It does mean a massive, quick boost in confidence, a spring in your step and an even sharper eye on your end goal.

That goal with Aston RX is to lose up to 10kg in 28 days. Some people who are 60kg may only lose 2kg-5kg but each of those kilograms is precious to them. The lowest amount lost I’ve seen on this program is 5kg and the most is 15.9kg. All in 28 days.

It’s fast. It’s really fast and that’s because this program corrects metabolic function. When it’s working well you just happen to lose weight really quickly. The liver starts getting rid of stored excess fat, blood glucose levels decrease along with insulin levels and the side effect is that weight is lost.

It’s often the most welcome side effect of all!
