I must have tried every diet since I was a teenager- even when I was a healthy weight, I was always on a diet. After having 2 children and lots of life stressors, I gained, lost a little and continued to gain weight throughout my adult life. I tried to make lifestyle changes, rather than diet, but I finally realised the experts are right- you can't out-exercise a poor diet! My weight and poor health were affecting every aspect of my life- my work- I was always tired. My recreation- I struggled to walk up hills, was often in pain and just too tired to do fun activities. My mental health- I was feeling low, was unhappy and felt quite defeated. I turned 45 at the end of last year. I decided I needed to change things. If not now, then when? I was sick of being tired and unmotivated. So I went online looking for a gym. I found Fernwood and saw the adverts for the "Strong" challenge. I thought this was the kick in the but that I needed. When I saw the program included access to the AstonRx program, I was hesitant at first. It looked restrictive and I love my snacks and fruit and wasn't sure how I'd go without them. But I am a convert! I just can't believe how few cravings I have now! I will still enjoy a snack every now and then, but it's maybe 1-2 a week, where it use to be 3 or more everyday! I've tried lots of their recipes, switched to cream in my coffee, eat 3 balanced meals a day and just have a camomile tea after dinner most nights. Lots of changes! 12 weeks ago I started at 106kg and now I'm down to 92.5kg. So 13.5kg lost so far! I am still a long way to go from my goal weight, but can't believe how far I've already come! I can now walk up stairs and hills without getting puffed, I look for the heavier weights in the gym rather than the lightest and I feel so much happier and healthier overall. And as a bonus, nearly all my clothes are too big so I've had to go buy all new clothes! Down 2 sizes in most stores! And to top it off, I won the "Strong" program at my gym! I can't wait to see what else I can achieve with this program. For me, this is just the beginning of my health journey. |
